VOICEMAIL

  1. How do I check my voicemail from my office phone?
  2. On the phone set there is a MESSAGE button. Pick up your headset and press the MESSAGE button. Enter your password followed by the # key to access your voicemail.

  3. How do I check my voicemail from a phone on the University campus?
  4. On the phone set there is a MESSAGE button. Pick up the headset and press the MESSAGE button, press the * key to access another mailbox. Enter your extension followed by the # key and then enter your password followed by the # key to access your voicemail.

  5. How do I check my voicemail from home?
  6. Dial 305-284-3888. Enter your extension followed by the # key and then enter your password followed by the # key to access your voicemail.

  7. How do I claim my extension for Communité so I can use the web features of Communité?
  8. Log into MyUM, click on Update Voicemail Information and follow the simple instructions for adding your personal mailbox number. Only one person can claim the mailbox, but multiple people can check the voicemail from the phone. USE the same password that you use on the phone.

    Once you have claimed the voicemail you can check your voicemail online by visiting https://voicemail.miami.edu/Communite/login.aspx and entering your username and password (same one as MyUM.) Do not share your username and password information with anyone.

  9. How do I check my voicemail online?
  10. On your web browser, enter the following URL: https://voicemail.miami.edu/Communite/login.aspx The username and password is the same one you use for MyUM.

  11. How do I change my password?
  12. You can change your password by pressing the following message options on the phone.

    • Log into the voicemail via the phone (284-3888)
    • Enter your extension followed by the # key
    • Enter your current password followed by the # key
    • Enter option 5 to manage personal option
    • Enter option 5 for administrative options
    • Enter option 3 to change your password
    • Enter the new password followed by the # key

    You can also change your password by logging into Communité via https://voicemail.miami.edu/Communite/login.aspx , click on options and select change passcode

  13. How do I change my internal and external greeting?
  14. You can change your voicemail greeting by following these steps (page 24 of the user manual)

    • Log into the voicemail
    • Once you are logged in, enter option 5 for Personal Options
    • Enter 4 to manage your Personal Prompts
    • Here you will be able to select the option to record your voicemail or to record your name
      • Enter 1 to record your voicemail greeting
      • Enter 5 to record your name

    After you record your greeting, press 1. It will then give you the option to save you new greeting or to re-record.

  15. What are the commands while listening to a voicemail message from the phone?
    • 1 = Save current message
    • 2 = Forward message to another extension
    • 3 = Skip to next message
    • 4 = replay current message
    • 5 = rewind message 6 seconds
    • 6 = Fast forward message 6 seconds
    • 7 = Delete this message, play next

  16. I am a new employee and need a password. Where do I obtain one?
  17. Please send an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu with your name, room, department, and the extension that you will be using. An initial password will be created and sent back via email. The creation of a password can take up to 24 hours.

  18. How do I create a notification for my voicemail?
  19. You can create a rule to receive a notification when a voicemail is received either by email, phone or pager.

    • Log into Communité via the internet at https://voicemail.miami.edu/Communite/login.aspx
    • Click on “Rules”
    • Click on “Create New Rule”
    • Click on the circle next to “Notify Me” under Inbound Call Rules and click on continue
    • Scroll down to the section “Notify Me at” and fill in the information
    • Click on Save

  22. How can I obtain training on the Communité system?
  23. Training for the Communite voicemail system can be done through ULearn (http://ulearn.miami.edu/)



PHONE

  1. Can I move my phone from one desk or office to another?
  2. No, unless you have a very long cord. The phone system at UM is not like the phones at home where you can unplug and plug your phone anywhere. If you are moving offices or workstation, please send an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu with your name, room, extension and the date that you will need to move. The moving of the telephone can take up to 10 business days.

  3. Who do I contact if my phone does not work?
  4. If your phone is not working you may contact 8-3000 from another phone or send an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu. Please provide your name, extension, room number and the problem that you are experiencing.

  5. When I call other people at UM, the wrong name is displayed for my number. How do I get this fixed?
  6. You may send your request to update the display name by sending an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu. Please provide the name you want to be displayed, the room number, and the extension.

  7. How do I forward calls to a number within the University or outside of the University?
  8. You may forward to another extension by pressing the forward button on the phone, enter the 5 digit extension, and press the forward button a second time. This will only work for forwarding to another extension within the University. To forward to an outside number please follow the instructions below.

    You may also set this up online at https://voicemail.miami.edu/Communite/login.aspx and creating a “Forward” rule. Calls will be forwarded after your extension has been tried.

    • Log into Communité
    • Click on “Rules”
    • Click on “Create New Rule”
    • Click on “Forward” under the Inbound Call Rules
    • Click on “Continue”
    • Scroll down to the section “Have Incoming Calls Forwarded to”
    • Use 5 digits for on-campus calls, 11 digits for off campus (9 + area code + number)
    • Click on “Save”

  9. How do I do a conference call from my phone (less than 5 people)?
    • Dial the first number
    • When the first person picks up, press the “Conference” button on the phone and dial the next number
    • Press the “Conference” button again to connect everyone together.

    You can dial and connect up to 5 people for the conference call. The quality of the call will decrease after 5 numbers.

  10. How do I set up a large conference call (more than 5 people)?
  11. Please contact Telecommunications at 284-6565 option 1 and provide to them the following information:

    • Departmental account number to charge
    • Department name
    • The number of people who will be attending to call
    • The date and time the conference call will take place
    • The name of the host
    • Email address

    All requests must be submitted to Telecommunications in advance at least 1 hour before the call, preferably a day before. Confirmation of the request with the dial in number and password will be sent via email to the host to distribute to the other callers.

  12. How can I leave a message for someone on campus without ringing his/her phone?
  13. You may leave a message for someone without ringing his/her phone by calling the message direct number (8-6243) and enter the 5 digit extension followed by the # key.

  14. Is there a way to bypass a greeting when calling someone?
  15. Press 1 to bypass the greeting or press 11 to go straight for the beep to leave a message.

  1. I forgot my voicemail password. Who do I contact?
  2. Please send an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu to request a password reset and provide your name, extension, and room number.

  3. How do I obtain a long distance code?
  4. Please send an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu and provide your name, room number and extension.

  7. How do I obtain the University’s Telephone Book?
  8. Please contact the University’s Communications and Marketing department at 8-5600 to request a phone directory.

  9. How do I obtain the Law School’s internal directory?
  10. Please visit http://www.law.miami.edu/directory/ to view and print the latest Law School telephone directory. The date on this page will indicate the last time the directory was updated.

  11. My name is not on the internal directory. What do I do?
  12. Please send an email to law_telecom@law.miami.edu and provide your name, extension, and room number.

  13. Where can I send updates for the internal directory?

  15. I need to locate someone on the University campus. Where can I find the University’s online directory?
