The Law School's LL.M. Programs

The Law School's graduate programs provide opportunities for advanced study, individual research, and specialization leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation, Estate Planning, Comparative Law, Inter-American Law, International Law, Ocean and Coastal Law, and Real Property Development.

The number of credits and years required to earn a graduate degree depend upon the particular course of study. With the approval of the director of the selected graduate program, a student may transfer credits for graduate-level work from another accredited law school if the work was completed within four years prior to transfer (two years in the case of the LL.M. in taxation) and the student successfully completes one semester of graduate study at this Law School.

Graduate degrees are awarded to qualified students who have completed the required credits with a minimum average of C+. Candidates engaged in outside employment for more than 15 hours per week may not enroll for more than 6 credits per semester without the approval of the director of their respective graduate program.

The Program in Comparative Law
is exclusively for foreign attorneys, providing a unique opportunity to continue the study of law in a context that emphasizes American common law and the impact of a global economy on American law.

The Program in Inter-American Law
is designed to prepare students for a career in the inter-American legal field, exposing them to basic aspects of Latin American law and legal culture so they can more effectively service clients from that region and advise clients doing business in Latin America.

The Program in International Law
provides students with the background necessary to recognize, understand and manage problems arising in the international legal order, including those relating to international trade, investment, business, environmental problems and the protection of human rights.

The Program in Ocean and Coastal Law
prepares the student to be a specialist in the domestic and international legal problems associated with the use and protection of the marine environment. The University of Miami School of Law is an ideal place to study Ocean and Coastal Law.

The Program in Real Property Development

The Program in Taxation
is designed to allow students to pursue a full range of tax specialties as well as offering a solid foundation in the core subjects of taxation.

The Program in Estate Planning
provides a unique educational experience. It is the only existing full-time law school graduate program leading to a master’s degree in estate planning. The comprehensive coverage of estate planning topics offered by its curriculum is not available elsewhere.
